Species Info

Suneaters are an original species by daxe!
They are nomadic plasma-based draconic creatures with two forms, terrestrial and astral.

Suneaters can vary greatly in appearance. Each individual has a unique color scheme, referred to as a spectrum. Their appearance and colors will change (usually in saturation and lightness, but occasionally their hues will shift) depending on their energy levels.
Most individuals exhibit bilateral symmetry, 4 limbs, a tail, 2 ears, 2 horns, 2 eyes, and a short snout with two nostrils. Most are bipedal with opposable thumbs on their front paws, though some individuals have been found to develop specialized quadrupedal limbs or additional limbs. They also can manifest wings made of plasma that match the color of the flame on their tail.

Suneater horns are used to store energy in compact, crystalline forms that grow like sugar crystals. Large horns are most commonly seen on individuals who haven't transformed recently. a large horned individual usually holds a respected position within their communities as someone who is knowledgeable as they have spent a long time on the planet they inhabit.
nub horns can be a sign that the eater recently expended all their energy reverted back to terrestrial form. in some circles there are rumors of potent culinary and magical uses for suneater horns for the sweetness and energy stored within, so some individuals may choose to trade chunks of their horns or give them freely as gifts.

eyes vary greatly between individuals and change over time to be better suited to their environment. The sclera, pupil, and iris can be any size, shape, and appear any color in their spectrum. Some also have additional limbal rings, creating a bulls-eye appearance. Their eyes emit light if the individual expresses over a certain level of energy, and become particularly luminous when interested in something. when very excited, plasma can begin to leak out of their eyes and give the shape and appearance of flames matching the plasma on their tails.

The tip of every suneater's tail harbors a plume of plasma. The properties of the plasma usually corresponds to the mood of the suneater it belongs to. This makes the tail a particularly useful social tool for suneaters. The spectrum of colour displayed, the size, temperature, and the brightness of the plume can communicate a great deal of information about how they are feeling. Large plumes can indicate agitation, hot flames accompany intense emotions and lack of restraint, and a small dim flame means low energy levels or poor health. plasma flows throughout their bodies and is directly connected to their life force.

while on-planet, suneaters tend to prefer small, tight-knit social groups of individuals of any species. Most will follow the local customs and do their best to blend in to society, including wearing the local fashions. many seek adventure and find work as adventurers. some dedicate themselves to a craft and spend years learning from local artisans in order to master it, then go on to run their own studios and workshops. other more solitary individuals who enjoy the company of plants and the natural world over societies tend to take on a more feral appearance but still tend to form bonds with wildlife and practice cultivation of plantlife.
They can be any gender (or have no gender), depending on the individual's preference and social customs of the locals. little is known about their reproduction except that offspring are produced by encapsulating plasma in the same crystalline material that makes up their horns. The result is an object that resembles an egg that hatches once it has absorbed enough sunlight.

Upon adopting, You can:

☀Personalize your adoptable with a name and personality
☀Make changes to fur length, hair style, and other cosmetic changes
☀Other minor changes in future art you draw/have commissioned (ex. plantigrade instead of digitigrade legs for terrestrial forms, different horn length and style)
☀Draw, role-play, use the character how you see fit!
☀Upload your character art wherever you'd like to use it
☀Trade your purchased character to someone else in exchange for another character or art
☀use your suneater in ways that don't line up with the species lore (This includes making anthro, feral, gijinka, sphinx, satyrs and other forms.)

I ask that you do not:

☀claim the suneater species or my artwork as your own
☀resell characters for more than what you paid for them
☀drastically change the anatomy without approval
☀create and sell new suneater characters
☀alter the art you receive from me in any way. i take pride in my work and doing this will make me sad + result in me not allowing you to adopt any more of my characters. If you want to customize the design in ways mentioned above you can do so in art you create/commission in the future.

FAQ

what is an adoptable?

Adoptables are characters or designs that you buy, or "adopt" into your collection. how it works is I produce a species, take an individual from that species, give it a unique appearance and sprinklings of personality. Some artists choose to define more aspects of their adopts but i like to think i'm giving you a seed for you to sow your own unique vision with. I want to spark inspiration in you to take the character and use it as a tool to tell a story, and hopefully delight you enough with my design that you want to create more art of it!

what does open species mean?

An open species, to put it briefly, is a species which can be made by anybody, without charge. Though there are of course certain physical traits which must be followed for it to be considered part of the species, the limitations are few. Basically anyone can make one for free!

That's great! you can make your own custom suneater as of March 2023 The species was originally closed, but i decided to open it up to others.as for why i chose to start eaters as a closed species: The creature that my fursona has become has been many, many years in the making and I'm very attached. ;w; There's a fair amount of lore and work behind suneaters and the universe they inhabit.(You don't need to follow my lore guidelines for your adopts, but it exists for my immersion and pleasure and can be yours too if you like!)that said, i really want people to be able to interact with my characters, settings and story so I decided to open it up so others can create their own space dragons.If you have any questions or are unsure about something, just ask and i'll be happy to clarify!

larger anomalies rarely observed
☀diet: plasma from stellar sources
☀lives in deep space/in orbit of stars
☀energy consumption: high
☀composed nearly entirely of plasma and magnetic fields it generates through the charged particles in its horns.
☀transformation occurs when huge amounts of stored or consumed energy are channeled in proximity of a solar event (i.e. auroras on a planets surface)more research into astral subjects is needed.

Rules regarding adult content:I don't mind if you feature your adopted charcaters in mature art, roleplay, etc. but there are a few things i am not comfortable with. this includes:
-graphic depictions of torture
-anything mature involving minors/cubsmost of the time i welcome questions for clarification, but i really don't want people contacting me about if (insert graphic content here) is acceptable so i'm gonna say if you aren't sure, keep it to yourself.always always always make sure any mature content is tagged appropriately and not posted where minors may see it.
